Saydrop is Apple-Silicon-only — it uses Apple’s MLX framework for fast on-device inference. Intel Macs, Windows and Linux aren’t supported.

First launch

From download to dictating.

  1. 01 A 🎤 icon appears in your menu bar.
  2. 02 Whisper medium downloads once (~2 GB) — the menu shows ⏳ while it does. Local cleanup models download only if enabled.
  3. 03 macOS prompts for Microphone, Accessibility and Input Monitoring — grant all three.
  4. 04 Double-tap your hotkey, speak, double-tap again. Transcribed text lands at your cursor; cleanup is optional and off by default.

Signed & notarized

The release pipeline verifies the Saydrop .dmg Developer ID signature and Apple notarization before publishing. macOS Gatekeeper can validate those credentials.

Updates

Release builds can include the Sparkle updater and use Saydrop's signed appcast feed. You can also check the release history and download updates manually.
